Metal Corporation was initially formed as the mechanical workshop branch for metal parts production under the Ministry of Agriculture in 1975. The entity was recognized as an independent enterprise in 1988. Among the products manufactured by the enterprise are water control gates, water canal filtration nets, electric panel boxes, electric towers and others. The factories would also supply the private industries with metal products required in construction and power sectors.
The enterprise since changing its legal status to a corporation and being merged into NDC plans on expanding its areas of operation to better address national needs. The Metal Directorate aims to expand the production of metal gabion, steel pipes, thermoplastic pipes and PVC pipes. The factories are currently engaged in producing 100,000 affordable hospital beds to be made available to the government as part of its response to the COVID outbreak.
